Renee is one of our most consistent and hard-working athletes. She’s been with us for over a year now, and has made such amazing progress since her first day. Renee is a prime example of “trusting the process.” She started her membership at twice per week. Then, after about four months, she upgraded to three times per week — she was ready for the challenge! After making so many great gains with her consistent attendance, Renee decided to go “Unlimited” at the beginning of this year, and boy has she upped her game! She competed in the second annual Big Horn WOD Bash and made it to the podium for an impressive third place finish!

When did you start CrossFitting? My first WOD was 11 January 2013
When did you first start training at BHCF? My first WOD was 11 January 2013!
Favorite WOD: I am excited to finally be able to do the Baseline and “Cindy” Rx’d. I also secretly kind of like the Bear Complex. It could be the name.
Least favorite WOD: If I tell you am I going to see it on the Whiteboard tomorrow? I hate “Kelly”—she is out for blood!!
Tell us about your sports and fitness background: I played a random assortment of sports in high school; I was on the Cheerleading squad one year, the dance team, ran track and played on the boys football team my senior year. I enlisted in the Marine Corps and “fitness” is a big part of that culture, though they may not always be very smart about it!
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? My ex watched it on television and talked about it a lot.
Take us back to your first WOD: I have most of it written down: AMRAP 1 rope climb, 10 push-ups, 15 sit-ups. I climbed the rope twice and eventually dropped to my knees for the push-ups. Fighting back the urge to vomit, the cash-out was a max effort headstand or handstand hold. Nope.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body? I have guns now! Coach Chris complimented me on my bicep vein the other day. Not the strangest compliment I’ve ever received. I’m leaner overall, more muscle definition.
What sort of changes have you seen in your life? I’m happy!! It’s funny the little ways your life improves that you don’t really notice at first. I found a bottle of Excedrin pushed to the back of my cabinet the other day. It reminded me of how often I used to take it, I’d get these miserably painful headaches, but I haven’t taken anything like that in well over a year now.
Favorite BHCF moments: When Coach Brian got wrapped up in a song and stopped to play the air guitar right in front of Haydee P. during a WOD. It still makes me chuckle. And I love the events and cookouts they put together. I always have a good time.
Advice for people getting started? Just do it. I know it is intimidating but the Coaches will not ask you to do more than you can handle. They will challenge you for sure and you will be better for it.
Hobbies, interests outside of CrossFit? I run with Coach Marilyn and Chrystal L. on as many Sundays as we can—everyone should come join us sometime!
