Whenever I pull down the ropes, I always ask the class, “When was the last time you climbed a rope?” For those who have been with us for a while, the answers range anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. However, for our newer members, the answer is almost always, “Junior high school…maybe.”

The rope can be daunting, intimidating, and, seemingly, downright unreachable. But in the context of “functional fitness” climbing a rope fits right in. Pushing, pulling, jumping, running, squatting, throwing, lifting — this is what we do. Did you happen to notice “pulling” in there? Oh yeah…that includes pulling YOURSELF up, over, around, and through whatever obstacle is in your path.

Just the other day, Marilyn achieved her first (and subsequently, second and third) rope climb. This was a crowning achievement for her, and I feel honored that I was able to witness it.

What’s your next goal, and how do you plan on reaching it?
